Get The Movie Star Hair You've Always Craved

START STYLING IN THE SHOWER

Today you can get shampoos and conditioners that only cleanse and moisturize, but also actually prepare your hair for styling. Choose the formula suited to your hair type and you really will save some styling time and get better results.

DRUGSTORE GENIUS:

Thin and Fine-look for thickening formulas that plump the hair shaft.

Frequently Heat-Styled- look for hydrating products infused with thermal protective serums.

Dry and Frizzy- look for formulas with extra conditioners and silicones that moisturize and fight frizz.

Color-Treated- look for colo-protecting and mooisture boosting products.

USE THE RIGHT HAIRBRUSH

If you haven't bought yourself a new hairbrush in a while, now is the time. You probably want to have a comb and more than one brush to handle various styling jobs.

Wide-Tooth Comb-Use it to detangle wet hair after you apply conditioner. Start at the bottom and work your way up the hair strands.

Cushion Brush With Rounded-Tip Bristles- Use it to brush dry hair or to style wet hair with a blow dryer.

Round Wooden Brush With natural Bristles- Use it to smooth and straighten coarse, curly hair.

Round Ceramic Brush- Use it to quickly lock in volume around your crown if you have fine to medium hair.

GO EASY ON THE HEAT

Befor you bring on the hot tools, coat your hair with a thermal protecting spray, serum or cream.

A Better Blow Dry

  • Wait until your hair is 80 percent dry before heat-styling. Start any sooner and you'll just waste time removing excess moisture.
  • Use your dryer's nozzle attachment. It helps concentrate the heat right where you need it.
  • Use high heat when drying the bottom half of your hair, mediuim for the top half. "Because it's thicker, the bottom portion can handle the heat better than the thinner hair closer to your head.

Curl With Caution

  • Your hair should be completely dry before you use a curling iron. Irons easily reach temperatures hot enough to boil the water in still-wet hair, which can cause breakage.
  • Hold the iron to your hair for no more than three seconds. For long lasting curls, immediatly rewind the clip sections to your head with long, metal clips. Let them cool for about 15 minutes, then release.

Smart Straightening

  • As with curling iron, use a straightening iron only on completely dry hair.
  • If you have straight to wavy hair, you should pass the iron over each section just once. "Never peress it like an iron shiert. You've got to keep it moving." Coarse and curly hair can withstand more than one pass.
  • The curlier your hair, the higher the heat setting should be. Use a lower setting if yoou have straighter locks.
